She returned to Greene and opened Roma Jean's Clip and Curl which she operated until 1982. She operated a beauty salon at Cedar Terrace in Charles City until 1990.

In later years she continued to serve her older clients when called upon to do so at their homes. Throughout the years as a beautician, Roma Jean served as a mentor to many who entered the same profession.

Roma became employed as a bus driver for the Greene Community School District in 1990 where she drove School Bus No. 6 until shortly before her death. She enjoyed taking the kids to their sporting events.

Those who knew Roma Jean will never forget her ability of being outspoken and yet being generous to a fault. She was always willing to help out whenever called upon to either fix meals for a group of people or help out at church or social function. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Isadore Circle, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Roma Jean was an avid bowler, golfer, and quilter.

She was united in marriage to Thomas James Marshall on July 13, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville. To this union were born three children.

She was preceded in death by Jim on June 22, 1995; her grandson, Justin Marshall, on November 26, 2000; her parents; a brother, Melvin in infancy, and a sister, Ruby Smith.

Her family includes her three children; Kim Marshall and Roxann Geelhoed both of Greene, Troy (Rhonda) Marshall of Allison; four grandchildren, Mandy (Mitch) Grummitt of Aplington, Anthony Marshall of Allison, Jimmy Geelhoed and Blake Marshall both of Greene; two great grandchildren, Justine Grummitt of Aplington and Brett Marshall and his mother, Amy Van Ellen of Dumont.
