NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Ronald D. "Butch" Johnson Jr., 39, of 114 Quimby, Nora Springs, died Friday (Feb. 7, 2003) Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Lisa Locoh officiating. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.

Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. today at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs, and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Ronald D. Johnson Jr. Memorial Fund.

Ronald was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Ronald D. and June E. (Powell) Johnson. He moved with his parents to Webster City, Iowa. He attended school in Hampton, Iowa, where Shirley Hand and Regina Artley were a very special part of his education.

He had lived in North Iowa most of his life and the last 15 years in Nora Springs with his father.

He enjoyed fishing the Shell Rock River for catfish, country music, singing and attending Camp Sunnyside. He was involved in the Special Olympics and had won many awards in the wheelchair races.

Ronald is survived by his father, Ronald D. Johnson, of Nora Springs; his mother, June Newgaard and her husband, Richard, of Tucson, Ariz.; his two brothers, Rory Johnson, of Sheffield, and Eric Johnson and his fiancée, Merilee Beasley, of Sheffield;. and his sister, Kimberly Martinez and her husband, Dan, of Kanawha; sisters-in-law, Kim Johnson, of Hampton, and Lisa, of Keil, Wis.; two half brothers, Chris and Rick Newgaard, of Tucson, Ariz.; maternal grandmother, Jane Croxell, of Webster City.; nieces and nephews; and close friends, Lori and Doug Smidt and their children, of Nora Springs.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Johnson in 1995.
