PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WISCONSIN - Roger Charles (Butch and Doc) Rademacher, 66 years old, died in an automobile accident south of Walker, Iowa, on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009.

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, with Reverend Jerome Naduvanthiyil officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. A private family interment will be at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and at the church on Friday, Jan. 23, from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Roger was born July 20, 1942, in Charles City to Charles and Opal (Spurbeck) Rademacher. He married Mattie Woods on June 11, 1966, at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City.

Roger attended Immaculate Conception High School in Charles City. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman from 1960-1963. He graduated from University of Iowa in 1967. He attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences from 1967-1971.

He completed an internship in Dallas, Texas in 1972. Roger practiced Family Medicine in Charles City, Iowa for seven years, later pursuing a General Surgery Residency at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines from 1979-1983. He established Prairie Medicine Clinic in Prairie du Chien in 1983. He spent the last 26 years practicing medicine as a general surgeon, serving area communities.

He was a Board Certified American College of Osteopathic Surgeon (ACOS), proctor for ACOS Oral exams and Authorized Medical Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct flight physicals. Roger was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with family and friends. His favorite pastimes were golfing, aircraft piloting and rooting for the Hawkeyes!

He is survived by his wife Mattie Rademacher from Prairie du Chien, Wis.; his children, Amy and Donald Montgomery from Elkader, Polly and Judson Kadolph from Dubuque, Wendy and Shawn Willox from Hollidaysburg, Penn., and Mark and Emily Rademacher from Kansas City, Mo. Roger was a loving grandfather to Collin, Alexandria, Mattie and Corbin Montgomery, Garrett and Jenna Kadolph and Tavis Willox. His siblings include Charlyne (Skip) Miller, Sandra (Sundy) Onken and William Rademacher. He has many precious nephews, nieces and endearing cousins.

Roger loved time with his golf partners, Leonard (Lenny) Miller, Dick Elliott and David Brickman. He valued lifelong childhood buddies Jerry and Nancy Joerger, Jack and Sue Patton, and Ron and Joyce Morris. He cherished his enthusiastic breakfast buddies, and fishing and hunting buddies. He treasured his travel companions and special friends, Ken and Fran Zichal and Dick and Annie Beinborn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Opal Rademacher; his granddaughter, Michaela Joy; his brother-in-law, Arnold Woods; Uncle Verle Rademacher and Aunt Doris Townsend.

Roger's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to his very special Prairie Medicine Family: Doug Dickman, Debby Fischer, Robert Fischer, Dawn Foyt, Gretchen Graham, Greg Johnson, Brenda and Mark Jones, Russell Jones, Jessie and Torrie Moses, Sue and Mike McMillan, Lori and Jan Waller.

The outpouring of love and support from respected area healthcare colleagues, beloved patients, family and friends has been immensely comforting.

Roger felt passionately about supporting rural healthcare. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be gifted to area rural hospitals.
