ROCKFORD, IOWA - Mary Ellen Welcher, 50, of Rockford, formerly of Mason City, died Friday, January 30, 2009, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa.

A graveside memorial service for Mary will be held at a later date in the Sheffield Cemetery.
Mary's family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church in Rockford in her memory.
Hogan-Bremer-Moore, 126-Third St. N.E. Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born on November 4, 1958, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Betty Emma (Timmerman) Welcher. She received her education in the Mason City Schools, graduating from Mason City High School. Mary also attended and earned her associates degree in business at NIACC in Mason City.

During most of her life, Mary was a caregiver for her parents, and also spent time doing volunteer work, the last was helping with the after-school programs at Rockford Community Schools.

Mary was an avid animal lover, visiting the PAWS animal shelter often. Mary also loved her cat "Precious." Mary regularly attended First United Methodist Church in Rockford.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two aunts, Bonnie (Roger) Sloggett of Rockford, Illinois, and Mary Beth (Ronald) Sterrett of Mexico, Missouri; a half-sister, Dixie McDonald of Eddyville, Kentucky; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Betty Welcher; and infant brother, William Howard Welcher; and her grandparents, Walter and Vera Timmerman.
