Harvey C. Hilgendorf, 81, of 506 N. Jackson St., Charles City, died early Friday morning November 28, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City, with Rev . David Werges officiating. Private Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet friends Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. Those wishing to extend memorials or an expression of sympathy may direct them to the family.

Harvey Carlton Hilgendorf was born in rural Alta Vista, April 18, 1922, one of four children to Rudolph and Frieda (Warnke) Hilgendorf. He attended school North of Alma.

On June 29, 1942 Harvey was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Dvorak in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Maple Leaf. In the early 1950's Harvey owned and operated Harvey's Seed and Feed in Charles City. Since the late 1950's Harvey had been an Iowa real estate broker. Harvey had been a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of both the Elks and Moose Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, all of Charles City. He was also a life member of the Floyd County Historical Society and a valued member of the Floyd Lions Club. Harvey's interest and leisure activities included being an avid small mouth bass fisherman as well as a great passion for deer and pheasant hunting. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. Harvey was an avid card player and especially liked the game "Euchre." Harvey played golf and had hit a hole-in-one on hole number 16 at the Country Club in Charles City. Harvey was very proud of his grandchildren and family. Harvey will be best remembered for being loving, caring and giving of himself.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in his life are his wife Dorothy of 61 years, his two sons, Jim Hilgendorf and his wife, Judy, of Clear Lake; Bill Hilgendorf and his wife, Mary of Zephyr Cove, Nev.; two grandchildren, Darcy Hilgendorf of Hamburg, NJ; David Hilgendorf of Ames; one sister, Irma Ellner of Waterloo and five step great grandchildren.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Laverne Hilgendorf and one sister, Alean Fisher.
