Betty (Mrs. Vernon) Thomas, 83, a resident of 2028 Clark Street, Charles City, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, at her home following a six-week illness.

Funeral services for Betty Thomas will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Revs. David Werges and Dennis Niezwaag, pastors, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church an hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Betty Mae Meyer Thomas was born July 23, 1920, in Charles City's Cedar Valley Hospital, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Weber) Meyer. She graduated from the Floyd High School in 1937.

On Aug. 7, 1938, Betty was united in marriage to Vernon "Barney" Thomas. The couple had three children, Terry, Jack and Karen. Betty and Barney were owners and operators of Club Iowa from 1974 to 1984. Betty was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. John's Women's Church Circle (Mary Circle) and Christian Ones. For many years, Betty served on the Floyd County Women's Auxiliary Board and also as a Pink Lady. She was a member of the Charles City Women's Club where she held numerous offices over the years. She was also a member of the Republican Women of Floyd County and the First Citizens National Bank Heritage Club.

She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter, Karen Thomas of Charles City; her grandchildren, Travis Thomas of Floyd, Dara (Troy) Jaeger of Charles City, and Leslie Thomas of Ft. Collins, Colo.; her sister Joyce (Lavern) Sigler of Floyd; four great grandsons; six nieces; two nephews; and her many friends.

Preceding Betty in death are her husband, Vernon O. Thomas, her son, Terry N. Thomas, his son Spencer M. Thomas all on March 3, 1985, her son Jack R. Thomas on June 18, 1972, and her parents.
