Irene Margaret Bonzer, 79, of Nora Springs formerly of Nashua passed away Saturday morning, November 29, 2003, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs, Floyd county, Iowa.
Irene was born April 17, 1924, on a farm in Floyd County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary K. (Wagner) Litterer. She attended rural country schools and graduated from the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Stanley Bonzer on Feb. 24, 1948, in Girard, Iowa. To this union two sons were born. They lived on farms in Chickasaw and Floyd Counties from 1948 to 1974.
She was a member of the Hobby Club and Neighbors Card Club. Irene started taking care of her parents in their home in 1974. She became a resident at Liberty Square in Nora Springs in 1993. After suffering a fall, she moved to the Nora Springs Care Center in Dec. of 2001.
She is survived by one son, William (Linda) Bonzer of Rolla, Mo.; three sisters: Florence Hanson of Greene, Esther (Maynard) Sautter of New Brighton, Minn,. and Audie (Keith) Zurcher of Greene; two grandsons: Shane (Amy) Bonzer and Ryan (Amanda) Bonzer; three great-grandchildren: Collin, Peyton and Madison.
Irene was preceded in death by her son, Gary Bonzer on Aug. 20, 1974, her parents; one sister, Eleanor Reints.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at St. John's United Church of Christ/Pleasant Hill, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, both in rural Nashua. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
