Evelyn J. Bartz, 86, of Charles City, died early Tuesday morning, November 25, 2003, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, where she had resided for the past six years in Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 28, 2003, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, with Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet friends Friday, November 28, from noon until the 1 p.m. service time at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home in Charles City. Those wishing to extend memorials or an expression of sympathy may direct them to the family in C/O Evelynâs son, Dennis Bartz, 3023 Clark St., Charles City, IA 50616.

Evelyn was born in Charles City on June 3, 1916, one of two daughters to August J. and Martha M. (Meineke) Reckner. She attended and graduated from Charles City High School, class of 1934.

In August of 1940, Evelyn was united in marriage to George H. Bartz in Missouri. Evelyn had been employed with Salsbury Laboratory's as a medicine packager for many years until retiring. She was a lifelong resident of Charles City and participated in the community in which she lived. Evelyn had been an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran in Charles City. She will be remembered as a loving wife, caring mother, a wonderful and proud grandmother and great grandmother. Evelyn enjoyed cooking and baking delightful treats for her family. The family will best remember Evelyn for being so loving and giving of herself.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her son, Dennis Bart and his wife, Dorothy of Charles City; her sister, Betty Peters of Waverly; four grandchildren, Dee Johnson of Charles City; Brad Bart and his wife, Brenda of Vinton, Iowa; Travis Bartz and his wife, Lisa of Charles City; Alicia Bartz and her fianc/, Tyler Evans of Des Moines; four great grandchildren, Ali and Luke Johnson of Charles City and Tyler and Justin Bartz of Vinton and one nephew, David Sharp and his wife, Lori and family of Waverly.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Bartz on December 27, 1996, and her parents.
