Marie Katherine Kay

Marie Katherine Kay, 88, formerly resided at 2521 Timber Ave., Charles City, died Monday afternoon, October 20, 2003, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, in Charles City.

A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City, with the Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Charles City. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the rosary recited at 5 p.m. and the vigil wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City and visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Marie Katherine Kay was born May 8, 1915, in rural Greene, Iowa, the daughter of Mathias and Katherine (Kohlhaas) Frascht. Marie was united in marriage to Clarence Kay on December 31, 1937. Clarence and Marie worked together as farmers in the Charles City area. In 1956, they resided and farmed at the Carrie Lane Chatman Katt house south of Charles City. Later the couple moved two miles South on Timber Ave. where they continued to farm and later retired. Marie was a wonderful housekeeper and cook. Marie was a devout member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge and the auxiliary circle. Marie was fun loving and enjoyed entertaining in her home. Playing cards, cooking, gardening and embroidering were her pastimes. Marie's grandson Philip was most precious to her. She will be most remembered for her sense of humor and her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her son, Duane Kay and his wife, JoAnn of Charles City; her sister, Ellen Schrage of St. Ansgar; her grandson, Philip Kay of Waterloo. Marie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Kay in September of 1999; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Kay on October 13, 1945; her parents and five brothers, Bernard, Leo, Joseph, Louis and Burt Frascht.
