SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA - Francis E. 'Gib' Gibbons, 78, formerly of Charles City, passed away in Sacramento on October 12, 2003. The beloved husband of the late Phyllis Gibbons, he is survived by a sister, Jean Eastin, and a number of nephews and a niece.

Gib was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran serving in the European theater in the 89th mortar Bn., where he received a bronze star for bravery. he was a Past Commander of VFW Post 3914 in Charles City, and a long-time member of Carmichael Elks Lodge #2103. He retired from Blake, Moffet and Towne with over 20 years of service receiving numerous outstanding salesperson awards. He was a member of St. Philomene Parish. A native of Iowa, his family owned and operated Gibbons Ladies Clothing Store in Charles City while he was growing up.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held October 16, 2003, at the chapel at Calvary Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave., Sacramento, with interment following. Lombard & Company Funeral Directors, 1550 Fulton Ave., Sacramento, CA (916) 483-3297, was in charge of the arrangements.
