Laverne 'Butch' Meyer, 64, a resident of 3112 220th Street, Charles City, Iowa, died Friday, September 5, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services for 'Butch' Meyer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday (today) at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Dr. Tony Slinger will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday.
Laverne Frank Meyer was born July 16, 1939, at Charles City, the son of Arnold and Maxine (Webster) Meyer. He attended Charles City schools and later received his G.E.D. 'Butch' served in the United States Air Force. On May 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Exline at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked for many years at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Corporation and was also involved in farming. His memberships included the Farm Bureau and V.F.W. 'Butch' had many interests including raising beef cattle, driving his horse, raising and training German Shorthairs, refinishing furniture, conversing with people especially on the telephone, going to the salebarn, and shopping at the Mennonite grocery store and eating their "Whoopie" pies. His family meant everything to 'Butch' and time spent with them was always extremely special.
Living family members include his wife, Mary Lou of Charles City; two sons, Rowdy Meyer, and Kelly (Jackie) Meyer both of Charles City; a daughter, Pam (Kurt) Roose of Bristow; six grandchildren, Ashley, Dusty, Cody, and Cassidy Meyer, and Kyle and Danielle Roose; mother, Maxine Meyer of Charles City; a brother, Wayne (Beverly) Meyer of Floyd; a sister, Cathy (Joe) Peach of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, and a grandson, Jamie Laverne Roose.
