Russell H. Schroeder Sr., 80, of Charles City, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, August 16, at Hauser Funeral Home, with Pastor David Werges, St. John Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Russell H. Schroeder was born February 9, 1923, in Elma, the son of Homer and Myrtle (Diestler) Schroeder. He graduated from Elma High School. On August 12, 1944, Russell was united in marriage to Viola Debban in Austin, Minn. The couple farmed many years in the Charles City area. Russell worked for the Oliver Corporation, which was later the White Farm Co. in Charles City. He retired in 1975, and continued farming. Russell lived for fishing and was an excellent carpenter, making many wooden crafts for his wife and family. Russell was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Russell is survived and lovingly remembered by five children: "Ginny" Horton and husband Roger of New Hampton, Russell Schroeder Jr. and wife Vicky, Gary Schroeder, Tamara Sutton and husband Roger, all of Charles City; and Devon Schroeder and fiance Evelyn of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, DeDra Smith, Joshua Schroeder, Rod Starkey, and Benjamin Jon Schroeder; two great grandchildren, Samuel McCarty and Niklas Smith; sister Wanda Stuber, brothers Robert, Kenneth, Dean, and Ronald Schroeder.

Russell leaves to join his beloved wife Viola, his parents, sisters Evelyn Hart and Lois Schroeder, and brother Dale Schroeder.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
