Floy B. Prewitt, 85, of 305 Washington St. in Floyd, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning (June 18, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at Union Cemetery in Humboldt, with the Rev. Solomon Odoom from the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd officiating. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the charity, organization or church of your choice.
Floy was born April 7, 1918, in Bradgate, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Golda (Nichols) Maupin. She grew up and attended school in the Bradgate area.
On June 2, 1939, Floy was united in marriage to John R. Prewitt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Floy had been a homemaker most all of her life. The couple had lived and farmed in rural Charles City, and moved to Floyd in 1960 where Floy had lived until her death. She had taught Sunday School at the Central Methodist Church in Charles City for many years and was involved with the Humboldt Geneology Society. Floy's interests and leisure activities included spending time with her family, flowers, gardening, reading and crochete work of beautiful afghans and braided rugs.
Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing her life are her three children: Dolores Foxen and her husband, Matthew, of Charles City; Janet Avery and her husband, Hal, of Mason City; Melvin Prewitt and his wife, Joyce, of Walcott; her brother, Lawrence Maupin and his wife, Cora, of Georgia; her sister, Jean Vote and her husband, Daniel, of Bradgate,; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Floy was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Prewitt on July 15, 1990, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
