Bernice Miller, age 79, of Hubbard, Iowa, died Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard. Burial at Hubbard Cemetery, Hubbard. Visitation Sunday afternoon, June 15, 2003 from 3 - 6 p.m. at Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Bernice Gwendolyn (Hume) Miller was born in Charles City, on Sept. 4, 1923, to Robert and Gladys (Waters) Hume, the second of twelve children. She attended and graduated from the McIntire School, McIntire.

In 1946 she married Harvey Miller at St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City. To this blessed union came four children -- Nancy, Joseph, James and Kathleen. Bernice and her husband were partners in Martin-Miller Home Interiors in Humboldt, and then owned and operated Miller Home Interiors in Hubbard, until their retirement in 1985. Bernice enjoyed spending time with her family and baking. She was well known as "The best pie baker EVER" by the whole family!

Bernice became a resident of the Hubbard Care in September 2002 and it was there that she passed away on Friday, June 13, 2003.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Harvey, of Hubbard; her three children, Nancy Engle of West Des Moines, Joseph Miller and his wife Linda of Kanawha, and Kathleen Krogmeier and her husband John of Norwalk; two granddaughters, Tammy Miller of Ankeny and Becky Jo Miller of West Des Moines; two grandsons, Shayne Miller of New Jersey and Chad Miller of Texas. She is also survived by her bothers and sisters, Marie (Mrs. Henry) Bird of Princeton, Minn., Margaret Lubbert of Riceville, Robert Hume of Charles City, Albert Hume of Branson, Miss., William Hume of Del Rio, Texas, James Hume of El Paso, Texas, John Hume of Waynesville, Miss., Lawrence Hume of O'Fallen, Miss., Laura (Dottie) Fal of Peculiar, Miss., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son James, a sister Doris Fe of Port Orchard, Wash., and a baby brother Charles Hume.
