Patricia Apel, 79, a resident of 216 Cedar Circle, Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at her home.

A funeral Mass for Patricia Apel will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. Monsignor Stanley Hayek, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday where St. Theresa's Circle will recite the Rosary at 4:30 and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday an hour prior to the Mass.

Patricia Joan Snyder Apel was born August 13, 1923, at Janesville, Minn., the daughter of Leonard and Ellen (Eustice) Snyder. The family moved to Charles City when Patricia was five years old. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception School in 1940. After graduation she attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Sioux City. On October 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to Raymond Apel. Patricia retired in 1985 after a life long career in nursing. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Theresa's Circle. Her great love and enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends.

Living family members include her children, Ellen (Dan) Crawford of Charles City, Michael Apel of Austin, Texas, Sandra (Tom) McDermott of New Hampton, Diane (Gary) Houdek of Charles City, Deb (Dan) Nelson of Charles City, and Kathy (Tom) Neff of Lenexa, Kan.; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Marian) Snyder of Charles City; and three sisters, Irene (Paul) Field of Charles City, Bonnie Banks of Charles City, and Ann (Woody) Aldridge of San Marcos, Calif.

Her parents, husband, a brother, and a great granddaughter, Alexandra Crawford, preceded her in death.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Immaculate Conception Educational Development Fund.
