Glen Miller, 83, a resident of 701 Fairfield Street, Floyd, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa.
Funeral services for Glen Miller will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Rev. Sarah Odoom will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003, and at the church an hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Glen Allen Miller was born in Bancroft, Iowa, on July 23, 1920, to Raymond and Vera (Pefferman) Miller. He graduated from Titonka High School in 1937. Glen served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was assigned aboard the Navy ship USS Augusta, the flagship of the Atlantic Fleet. On June 18, 1945, while stationed in Norfolk, VA, he was united in marriage to Leola M. Krominga of Titonka, Iowa. Together they owned and operated Tyke Electric in Titonka before moving to Floyd in 1966. Glen was then employed as an electrician at Oliver/White Farm from 1966 to 1982.
He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, V.F.W., Cedar Valley Engine Club, a 35 year member of the Floyd Lions Club and served for many years with the Floyd Fire Department. Glen was also a member of the USS Augusta Association and he and "Lee" enjoyed attending the reunions held at various locations throughout the United States. Together Glen and "Lee" grew and wholesaled gladiolas. Glen designed and crafted various oak and walnut wood items sold on the craft circuit for over 14 years. The time spent with his children and grandchildren was very important to Glen.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leola "Lee" of Floyd; two daughters, Celine (Dennis) Schmidt of Suffolk, Va., and Charlene (Larry) Glore of Tipton, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd Miller of Calif.; and a sister, Ola Mae (Howard) DeZeeuw of Evansville, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Vera (Pefferman) Miller of Buffalo Center, Iowa; three brothers, Harold Miller of Forest City, Iowa, Wayne Miller of Versailles, Mo., and Merle Miller of Des Moines; and a step granddaughter, Tamara Ruffolo of Mundelien, Ill.
Memorials may be directed to the Grace United Methodist Church.
