NASHUA, IOWA - Vada E. Hansen, age 101, of Nashua, died Friday evening, May 16, 2003, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa, of natural causes.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. There will be no visitation. Private burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.
Vada Elizabeth Hansen was born on November 24, 1901, in Mahaska County, to Milo and Jessie (Byrd) Rockwell. She was educated in rural schools and graduated from Penn Academy in 1921. She also attended one summer at Iowa State Teacher's College in cedar Falls. Vada taught school in rural Mahaska County Schools and third and fourth grade in Cedar.
On December 23, 1924, Vada was united in marriage to George Hansen in Cedar Falls. To this union four daughters were born. They moved to their farm south of Nashua in 1945. George and Vada farmed until retirement in 1975 and moved to Nashua.
Vada worked in the veterinary office of Dr.s Nelson and Waller for a number of years. She was also an active member of the Nashua United Methodist Church where she served as church organist. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and Rebekah Lodge in Nashua.
Vada is survived by three daughters: Genevieve Campbell of Phoenix, Arizona, Lucille Mager of Pharr, Texas, and Beulah Mead of Nashua; son-in-law LaVerne Mead; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren: Connie Peterson, Barbara Kuenaman and Misty and Shawna, Tom Witt and Jennifer (Brandon & Camryn) and Jordan, Carla Dugas and Danni Jo, LaVern Mead Jr., and Julie (Brandon) and Alyson, Lavonne Kruckenberg and Haley and Holly; as well as one sister, Dorothy Graham of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hansen, in 1967; a daughter, Betty Hansen; three brothers: Harry, Jack and Paul Rockwell; four sisters: Florence Nash, Mary Rockwell, Nellie Clayworth and Elsie Bunting; and a great-grandson, Chad Witt.
