LeRoy Sobolik, 88, of Charles City, died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Roy Sobolik will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Reverend Monsignor Stanley Hayek, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2003, where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus praying the Rosary. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday, May 15, 2003.

LeRoy Albert Sobolik was born February 6, 1915, at Ft. Atkinson, the son of Joseph and Petronella (Novak) Sobolik. Roy grew up in Ft. Atkinson and attended school there. He never completed high school but went on to barber school in Chicago after which he went to Alta Vista to work. It was there he met Dolores Daly and they were united in marriage on August 14, 1936. They were married for 59 years and were blessed with four children. Dolores died on April 23, 1996. Roy worked several jobs over the years, the most notable being as a barber in Alta Vista, and then at the Oliver Corporation where he worked for thirty years retiring in 1969 as a Chief Draftsman. He became a resident of Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home in November of 1996, moving to the Salsbury Baptist Home in September of 2002 when Riverside Chautauqua closed. Roy enjoyed many things. He was a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather, and was honored by being awarded Father of the Year in 1957. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Roy had his own band, The Four Aces, for several years and also played the drums for many other groups. He also enjoyed working in his workshop, and building or remodeling projects, fishing, and playing golf. His special times were being with his family and friends.

Living family members include four children: Mike (Vicki) Sobolik of Charles City, Sue (Vern) Kluwe of Mason City, Jack (Galene) Sobolik of Charles City, and Jim Sobolik of Lone Tree; seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, and a brother.

Hauser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
