BASSETT, IOWA - Gloria M. Bucknell, 71, of Bassett, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at the Floyd County Memorial hospital of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday May 12, 2003 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memorial Gardens in Charles City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the Ionia Funeral Home where there will be a 7 p.m. scripture service.Visitation will also be an hour prior to services at the church.

Gloria Marie Bucknell was born July 4, 1931 in Osage, the daughter of Martin & Olive (Woodiwiss) Havig. She attended school in Osage. During her teen years she developed respiratory problems. She moved to Colorado for a short time to help her respiratory problems. She returned to Osage and was united in marriage to Cletus Bucknell on May 7, 1949 in Austin, Minn. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Floyd area. In 1962 they moved to Bassett where they have resided ever since. Gloria passed away on the couples 54th wedding anniversary. Gloria worked for Comprehensive Systems in Charles City for 14 years. She was also an outspoken Bassett City Council woman. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City where she served on the Stewardship Committee, a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Nashua Saddle Club. She enjoyed her grandchildren, knitting, reading, cooking, gardening, visiting with friends, trail riding in Nashua, and square dancing. Her children could attest to her ping pong paddle skills.

Gloria is survived by her husband of 54 years Cletus; 6 children: Dave (Judy) Bucknell of Ionia, Sueanne (Mike) Testroet of Cedar Falls, Dan (Sandra) Bucknell of Sumner, Lou (Bill) Brennan of Charles City, Kathleen Bucknell of New Hampton, and Dennis (Renea) Bucknell of Nashua; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers: Marlin Havig of Osage and Wayland Havig of Davenport; two sisters: Marguerite Tosel of Mason City and Doris Denning of Cedar Falls; and a special friend Karen Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Emma Allene Hungate.

Ionia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
