Calvin was born May 26, 1931, the son of Conrad and Elma (Haaby) Overlee in Ross, Minn. Calvin was raised in the Ross and Badger, Minn. areas. As a young man in his teens Calvin became the father figure to the rest of his brothers and sisters following the early death of his father.

On August 1, 1953 Calvin was united in marriage to Norma Jean Carpenter at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hopkins, Minn. Calvin was very much a perfectionist who enjoyed tallying his life's stories for his family to cherish. Calvin was employed as Technical Writer for White-Oliver Farm Equipment for 36 years. During his career the family resided in several locations including Minneapolis, Minn., Delavan, Wis., and Charles City three different times. His moves also brought changes to his employer, which included writing for Cotter Manufacturing, Minneapolis Moline, and White Oliver Farm Equipment.

Calvin had an interesting childhood; he learned to drive the School Bus to and from school in partnership with fellow students to allow the real driver time to enjoy his smoking habit. He took on many responsibilities following his father's death and still was able to enjoy his life. Calvin loved to go fishing, do cross word puzzles, work in his garden, and complete genealogy studies. Time spent with his family was Calvin's most cherished moments. He was a perfectionist who made journal entries on a daily basis about the things that had occurred that day. Calvin also enjoyed collecting White Oliver, and Minneapolis Moline memorabilia. His favorite hobby was just puttering around.

Calvin was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Those thankful for having shared in his life include his wife Norma; five children: Debbie Schilling and her husband Randal of Charles City, Doug Overlee and his wife Jodi of Utica, Ill., Kathy Phillips of Woodstock, Ill., Steve Overlee and his wife Monica of Marengo, Ill., and Jeff Overlee and his wife Renee of Harvard, Ill.; three sisters: Elaine Niemi and her husband John of Aurora, Ill., Carol Erickson and her husband Swede of Coon Rapids, Minn., Maureen Sarkela and her husband Erv of Maple Grove, Minn.; two brothers: Glenn Overlee of Minneapolis, Minn., and Earl Overlee and his wife Janet of Grand Rapids, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
