Victor Praska, 87, a resident of 1513 Bailey Street, Charles City, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa.

A funeral Mass for Victor Praska was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Walter Brunkan, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, celebrated the Mass. Burial was at 1:30 p.m. in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Alta Vista.

Victor James Praska was born November 17, 1915, at home on the farm near Alta Vista, the son of John and Anna (Koudelka) Praska. He received his education at the Deerfield rural school and at Alta Vista. On May 2, 1939, he was united in marriage to Rose Komarek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Protivin. They farmed the "homeplace" until retiring in 1977 at which time they moved to Charles City.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters. Victor enjoyed fishing, playing cards, attending area church picnics, and visiting with everyone.

Living family members include his children, Jane Pitzen (Gene) of Stacyville, and Don Praska (Karen) of Charles City; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; two step great granddaughters; and a sister, Marcella Meirick of Alta Vista.

His parents, beloved wife Rose in 1978, two brothers, Emil and Ralph Praska, and three sisters, Rose Chihak, Lucy Berka, and Florence Vick preceded him in death.

Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements
