MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Alvin D. "Bud" Kock, 74, of Marble Rock, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Midwest Regional Hospital in Midwest City, Okla., from heart failure. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home in rural Charles City. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Garden with Military rites by the Marble Rock American Legion Post #387 and the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. The Rev. Patricia Shaw will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, and from 9 a.m. until the service on Friday at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home.

Alvin Kock was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Vilmar, the son of Ernest and Ruth 'Berk' Kock. On May 13, 1949 he was united in marriage to Betty L. Hesse in Marble Rock. Alvin retired from the military after 20 years in the Air Force. He is a veteran of WWII, Korean and Vietnam Conflicts.

He was a lifetime member of the Marble Rock American Legion. Alvin "Bud" was also the former owner of Family Cafe and B & B Tavern in Marble Rock.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Marble Rock; son, Gary E. (Jody) Hesse of Henryville, Ind.; daughter, Debra L. Kock, Marble Rock; two brothers, Darwin L. of Riceville, and Ron C. of Newalla, Okla.; half brother, Dennis O'Rourke of Hurdland, Mo.; one sister, Sharon A. Laue of Elma; granddaughter, Beverly L. (Joe) Knecht; two grandsons, Nick (Christina) Hesse, and Jon Hesse; four great-grandchildren: Kaylah and Logan Demaray, Jenna Knecht and Tobin Hesse.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred "Jack" and Darrell Kock; two sisters, Eileen Willsher and Evelyn Merriss.
