Vivian "V.W." Patton, 95, a resident of 204 Charles Street, Charles City, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at the Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly.

Funeral services for "V.W." Patton will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2002 , at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City . The Rev. Solomon Odoom, pastor of West St. Charles United Methodist Church , will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hitesville Cemetery rural Aplington.

Friend s may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Vivian "V.W." William Patton was born Feb. 8, 1907, at Bristow, the son of Edward and Gertrude (Gibson) Patton. He graduated from Bristow High School in 1925.

On June 28, 1930, he was united in marriage to Dena Krull. "V.W." was an independent brick mason. Upon his retirement in 1967 he and Dena moved to Charles City. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at his 'retirement' cabin in the woods. His greatest joy, however, was the time he could spend with his family.

Living family members include his wife, Dena of Charles City; two daughters, Bette Wolfslau of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Edna (Roger) Merfeld of Rockford; a son, David (Linda) Patton of Green Bay, Wisc.; seven grandchildren, John Michael Monaghan, Kevin Monaghan, Dina Scarlett, John Merfeld, Ann Marie Merfeld, Patrick Merfeld, and Jeff Patton; and seven great grandchildren.

His parents, a granddaughter, Julia Merfeld, two brothers, Roscoe and Paul Patton, and a sister Ethel Graves preceded him in death.

The family suggests memorials be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, 207 20th Street NW, Waverly, IA 50677.
