ELKHART, INDIANA - Mabel Wamsley, 90, a resident of Elkhart, Indiana, and formerly of Charles City, Iowa, died Monday, November 25, 2002, at East Lake Nursing Home in Elkhart, Ind.

Funeral services for Mabel Wamsley will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Oliver Brewer and Rev. Solomon Odoom, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, and from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Mabel Arlene Boekemeier Wamsley was born Aug. 24, 1912, the daughter of William and Martha (Hubbard) Boekemeier. A long-time resident of Floyd County, she grew up on the family farm north of Floyd, attended a rural grade school, graduated from Floyd High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa. From 1930 to 1934, Mabel was a rural school teacher. On June 2, 1934, she was united in marriage to Floyd Wamsley. For many years she and her husband were owners of Wamsley Plumbing and Heating, a respected Charles City business. Mabel was a member of Floyd Grace Methodist Church where she directed the choir for many years. Her love of music lead to her involvement with the PTA Mother's Chorus of Waterloo, and a mixed chorus at Fountain East Park, Mesa, Ariz., where they wintered following retirement. She also participated with the Phantasia Singers of Charles City. Mable enjoyed traveling, including fishing trips with family, entertaining friends and family, playing cards and crafting. She especially enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include her husband, Floyd of Elkhart, Ind.; a son, Vernon Wamsley and wife, Norma of Elkhart, Ind.; a daughter, Margery Hansen and husband, Leslie of Libertyville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Debra, Vaughn and Steven Wamsley; seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Boekemeier and wife Lucille of Rockford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Gregory Wamsley, and a sister, Amy Tjaden.

Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.
