GREENE, IOWA - Marvin F. Bruns, 87, of 201 North Fourth Street, Greene, died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene where there will be a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Marvin Francis Bruns was born July 8, 1915 in rural Scott Township in Floyd County, Iowa, a son of Herman and Martha (Abendroth) Bruns. He was baptized August 22, 1915 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He received his education in Floyd and Butler County Schools. Martin affirmed his faith on May 19, 1929 at St. Peter Lutheran Church.

On December 11, 1938 he was united in marriage to Rosamond Sophia Dralle at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at Vilmar. During the Depression he worked for area farmers for a dollar a day.

In 1935 he purchased a portable feed grinder that he operated until he started farming in 1939. He farmed southwest of Greene and was the Trojan Seed Dealer until his retirement in 1979. They moved to their new home in Greene in 1989.

Marvin and Rosamond were members of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar, where he served on the Church Council and was Chairman of the Congregation. After moving to Greene they became members of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Marvin served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Coop Elevator of Greene and nine years as the school director of Coldwater No. 9.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Marvin had a great love for nature and had many memorable fishing trips to Canada. He spent countless number of hours making gifts out of wood, which he loved giving to his family and others.

Those thankful for sharing his life include his loving wife of 63 years, Rosamond; three daughters and their spouses: Virginia and Don Feldman, Sandra and Gene Ross and Judy and John Oiser all of Greene; 10 grandchildren: Robin (Duane) Majewski, Troy (Teresa) Feldman, Tim (Maria) Feldman, Todd (Teri) Ross, Traci (David) Zvokel, Tara Ross, Jon Osier, Jan (Tom) Muench, Jill Osier and Jess Osier; 12 great grandchildren; Tyler and Melissa Majewski, Lisa and Jared Feldman, Brady, Kelsey and Megan Feldman, Nicholas and Carter Ross, Christian and Kinsey Zvokel and Dante Ross; one brother: Dale and his wife, Minnie Bruns, of Greene and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Edna Akin; one brother in infancy and a great grandson, Anthony Ross.
