Clyde was born the youngest of seven sons to Clinton and Myrtle "Elfers" Shultz on August 6, 1929. He attended rural school near Marble Rock and then graduated in 1947 from Charles City High School. During high school he was awarded the FFA State Farmers Award and the American Farmer Award. Clyde was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, on April 15, 1949. On March 5, 1950 he was united in marriage to Shirley Marie Stock at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, To this union was born four children. They farmed near Powersville, for 25 years and then moved to Nashua where they raised commodities such as corn, soybeans and cattle, especially Angus. He had many transactions with the family friends the Gabelmann's. The packing plant buyers were very impressed with Clyde's ability to grade his herd and many deals were completed on his word and handshake. Clyde also was a giving man who would drop everything to assist a neighbor or friend. He taught his family the rewards of hard work, negotiations and fair play. His love of tractors led him to enter the parade of tractors where he won two trophies for his ability to operate them. Clyde loved the farm and would do anything to protect it including planting many trees. He also prided himself on his red pickup. During his farming years he was active with the National Farmers Organization. Like most farmers it was difficult to actually retire but he and Shirley moved to Charles City in 1998. Clyde's mind remained alert and sharp to the point of keeping abreast of the stock market, investments, and the market. This he shared with his friends during coffee at Hy-Vee and Farmer's CO-OP. Then he would travel to the library almost daily to learn more.

Those thankful in sharing Clyde's life include his wife of 52 years Shirley, Charles City; his only son Calvin and his wife Deborah Shultz, Charles City; his three loving daughters Nancy and her husband Ray Ehlebracht, Rudd; Christy and her husband Duane Wegner, Charles City, and Janis and her husband Dave Skuster, Stewartville, MN; eleven grandchildren, Kirk Shultz, Stephanie Hanson, Tina Hudspeth, Travis and Tonya Ehlebracht, Jesse, Tanner and McKenzie Wegner, Kimberly, Kara and Andrew Skuster, and six great grandchildren, and two brothers Lowell Shultz, Charles City; and George and his wife Margaret Shultz, Greene.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, one precious granddaughter Kelsey Skuster, and four brothers Raymond, Lloyd, Don and Dean.
