RUTH (MRS. ROBERT) COOPER

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Ruth (Mrs. Robert) Cooper, 85, of 301 N. Joslin St., died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church in Charles City, with the Rev. Greg Lugn officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main, Charles City, and one hour before the services at the church Monday.

Ruth (Mrs. Robert) Cooper, 85, of 301 North Joslin Street, Charles City, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at the First Congregational Church in Charles City. The Rev. Greg Lugn, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, and Monday, May 6 at the church an hour prior to the services.

Ruth Deems Cooper was born December 21, 1916, at Shenandoah, the daughter of Harley and Elva (Graham) Deems. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1934, and from Iowa State University in 1939. Ruth worked as a social columnist for the Chicago Daily News before moving to Charles City. On August 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert Cooper at Charles City. Ruth was a member of the First Congregational Church, Charles City Art Association, City Improvement Association, Chapter CY, P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 50 years where she had served as president, and the Order of the Knoll at Iowa State. She enjoyed ballet, music, and attending Iowa State sporting events. Ruth's passions included enjoying her second home in Wisconsin, and writing poetry.

Living family members include her husband, Robert of Charles City; two sons, Dr. James Cooper and wife Vicki of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Robert Cooper of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Mary Catherine Savage and husband Fredrick G. of Baltimore, Md.; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, James H. Deems.
