Verna M. Wight, 68, of Charles City, died Friday, April 26, 2002, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Cremation was held and there will be no funeral services. Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.

Verna was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Boone and was married to Donald Wight on Dec. 9, 1955, at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Boone. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines, and was formerly employed by Fareway Stores, Boone, Oliver Corporation and White Farm Corporation, Charles City, retiring from the United States Postal Service in Charles City.She was a member of the American Postal Worker's Union AFL-CIO, United Auto Workers and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, traveling, and camping trips, both near and far.

Living family members include her husband, Donald; two sons, Timothy of Omaha, Neb., and Steven of Charles City; four grandchildren, Ashlea, Paige, Derik and Kegan; two sisters, Dolores Gay of Des Moines and Donna Gilchrist of Des Moines; a brother, Arlie (Butch) Miller of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Floyd and Catherine (Smith) Miller.

VERNA M. WIGHT

CHARLES CITY - Verna M. Wight, 68, of Charles City, died Friday (April 26, 2002) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1933, at Boone, and was married to Donald Wight on Dec. 9, 1955, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone.

Cremation was held and there will be no funeral services.

She graduated from East High School in Des Moines and was formerly employed by Fareway Stores in Boone, and Oliver Corporation and White Farm Corporation in Charles City. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Charles City.
