CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Aldon J. "Duke" Cross, 65, of Charles City, died Monday (April 8, 2002 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home in Charles City. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

Aldon 'Duke' Cross

Aldon James 'Duke' Cross, 65, of 1804 Kenwood Ave., Charles City, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Sunnyside Chapel in Charles City. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10, from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Burial will take place in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Aldon James 'Duke' Cross was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Charles City and was one of five children of Charles and Margaret (Monroe) Cross. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1955. On Aug. 17, 1957, he was united in marriage to Patricia Schmidt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was an avid camper, fisherman, hunter, card player and enjoyed going to casinos and being with his family. He worked for Patterson Gas Station for several years and then for Salsbury Chemicals as a chemical foreman for 35 years, retiring in 1997 at the age of 61. he also served in the National Guard from 1957-58.

Living family members include his wife, Patricia A. Cross of Charles City; a daughter, Tammy Cross Quinlan and her husband, Patrick, of Egan, Minn.; two sons, Ken Cross and his wife, Joanne, of Webster City and Mark Cross and his wife, Rana, of Olathe, Kan.; six grandchildren: Sydney Quinlan (Tammy), Scottie, Janelle and Katie Cross (Ken), and Dallas and Casey Cross (Mark); two brothers: Allen Cross and his wife, Diane, of Charles City and Jerry Cross and his wife, Mary, of Forest City; two sisters: Lavon Varner and her husband, Earl, of Rock Falls and Anna Mae Frein and her husband, Edward, of Charles City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces, cousins, friends and family members.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Aldon James "Duke" Cross, 65, passed away Monday (April 8, 2002) at his home in Charles City after a brief illness.

"Duke" is survived by his wife, Patricia, Charles City; one daughter, Tammy Cross Quinlan (Patrick), Egan, Minn.; two sons, Ken Cross (Joanne), Webster City, and Mark Cross (Rana), Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren, Sydney Quinlan (Tammy), Scottie, Janelle, Katie (Ken), Dallas, Casey (Mark); two brothers, Allen Cross (Diane), Charles City, and Jerry Cross (Mary), Forest City; two sisters, Lavon Varner (Earl), Rock Falls, and Anna Mae (Edward) Frein, Charles City; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces, cousins; and friends and family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home, Highway 218 South, Charles City. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and will continue from 9 a.m. until the service Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
