ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Merna E. (Bunn) Holmes, 80, died on April 2, 2002, in Orchard Park, N.Y. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. No prior visitation.

Merna was born on April 30, 1921, in Charles City, Iowa, and was raised on the Bunn family farm east of Charles City, graduated from Charles City High School in 1939, and attended Iowa State University in Ames until her marriage to William S. Holmes in 1942. During World War II she lived in Virginia. At the end of the war, she and her husband moved to the Buffalo area and settled in the town of Orchard Park, where she became active in the school PTA, leading their dance class program in the early 1950s. She was an excellent homemaker and a wise mentor.

Living family members include her husband and their children Robert, Douglas and Patricia, and three grandchildren.
