CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Ruth Boelsen, 87, of Charles City, and formerly of Marble Rock, died Thursday (Jan. 22, 2009) at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Ruth Boelsen will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Judy Wooton, pastor of the Marble Rock Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.

Ruth Boelsen, 87, of Charles City, formerly of Marble Rock, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Pastor Judy Wooton, pastor of the Marble Rock Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Ruth Mabel Huxsol Boelsen was born April 16, 1921, at Charles City, the daughter of Irving and Sophia (Jung) Huxsol. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1939. During World War II she worked at the Oliver Corporation for two years. On June 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Peter Boelsen at Charles City. They farmed all their lives southwest of Charles City retiring and moving into Marble Rock on October 15, 1979. Ruth is a member of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church and had been active in the United Methodist Women. Her interests included flowers and gardening. Ruth always enjoyed sharing her life with her family and took special interest in the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include two children, Gene (Beth) Boelsen of Nora Springs and Dian (Rich) Koenigsfeld of Marble Rock; six grandchildren, Jesse and Jacob Boelsen, Jeanette (Doug) Castleberry, Nathan and Gabe (Steph) Koenigsfeld, and Amanda (Paul) Pearson; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Louise Huxsol of Charles City; a brother, Marvin (Phyllis) Huxsol of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on November 28, 1979; a grandson, Aaron Boelsen; and a brother and his wife, Walter and Frances Huxsol.
