Virgil Quade, 90, of Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Virgil Lester Quade was born July 29, 1918, in rural Colwell, the son of Charles and Amy (Waidelich) Quade. He grew up in the Colwell area, graduating from Colwell in 1936 where he lettered in basketball. That same year he started working at Oliver-Hart Parr where he began a 40 year career, spending much of that time in management. He also farmed the family farm at the same time.

On January 20, 1940, he was united in marriage to Vivian Hoeft. Virgil retired from White Farm Equipment Company in 1976. He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. His hobbies included fishing and hunting in his earlier years, working on Volkswagen cars, watching sports, reading about history and travel, and traveling. Virgil took great pride in caring for his family, especially his wife in the last few years of her life. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his great sense of humor and caring.

Living family members include his four children, Wesley (Lois) Quade of Nora Springs, Barbara (John) Ashley of LaPorte, Colorado, Gary (Sandie) Quade of Charles City and David (Karen) Quade of Fort Collins, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and a special friend, Jolene Patterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 1999; and an infant brother, Donald Quade.
