Dale Boyer, 91, a resident of 905 Freeman St., Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Mark Anderson, pastor of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 3-9 p.m. Monday where the family will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Dale Leland Boyer, the son of Samuel and Mildred (Rice) Boyer, was born May 15, 1910, in Floyd County. He attended country school and Charles City High School. On May 14, 1930, he was united in marriage to Pearl Goodale at Charles City. He farmed until 1942, then moved to Colwell where he owned and operated the blacksmith shop. Dale then worked at the Colwell school as a custodian and bus driver for 12 years. They moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1961 where he serviced televisions, then they moved to Charles City the following year at which time Dale worked for Goodyear and later at Sears servicing television sets along with other small appliances. After retiring in 1973 he continued to repair sewing machines, lawn mowers, small appliances, etc., for many years.

Dale loved to fly, taking lessons in earlier years and receiving his pilot's license. He also enjoyed fishing in northern Minnesota and Canada. At the time of the Charles City tornado, which was also his birthday, he was all packed and ready to leave for Canada.

Living family members include his wife, Pearl, of Charles City; two daughters, Delores Haberkorn of Charles City and Janice Groesbeck and her husband, Darwin, of Riverside, Calif; three grandchildren, Craig Haberkorn and his wife, Cindy, of Charles City, Angela Andreas and Shauna von Hanstein and her husband, Phillipp, all of Madison, Ga.; six great-grandchildren, Damon, Travis and Dustin Haberkorn, Angela Parsons, and Lindsey and Brandy Andreas; a great-great-grandson, Dylan Parsons; and a brother, Lyle Boyer, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Darlene Boyer, in July 1946; a son-in-law, Kenwood Haberkorn, in June 2000; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Boyer, in February 2001.
