Gilbert Ambrose Osier was born June 1, 1918, on the Osier family farm in Union Township, Floyd County, a son of George Edward and Mary Magdalene (Katcher) Osier, and died Tuesday (Oct. 29, 1996) at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

He received his education at the St. Mary's School at Roseville and as a young man worked for his father on the farm. On April 26, 1941, he was united in marriage to Bethel Irene Lines at Roseville. To this union were born four children. He continued to farm and work part time at the Floyd Crossing Elevator until 1959 when he became employed by the Oliver Tractor Works, later White Farm Equipment. That following year they moved to Charles City. He worked in the Heat Treat Department until his retirement in 1980. Shortly thereafter they moved to Aredale where he worked with his son-in-law for two years, and then moved into Marble Rock. In 1993 he moved to Waukon to live near his daughter.

Gip was a life-long faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Roseville, Farm Bureau, and a member of the U.A.W. His favorite past time was fishing and watching baseball. He was an avid Cubs fan. In the winter months he enjoyed trapping and fox hunting.

Living family members include two daughters and their spouses, Nancy and Beryl Richard of Aredale, and Jeanette and Roger Ruegnitz of Waukon; two sons, Tom and Linda Osier of Charles City, and Martin and Donna Osier of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Michelle and Russ Osier, Chris, Carmen and Susie Osier, Alisa Guthrie, and Alex and Dana Ruegnitz; one great-grandson, Drew Osier; and four sisters, Laura Frascht of Greene, Magdalene Popes and Mildred Koenigsfeld, both of Charles City, and Catherine Fox of Clovis, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bethel, on Dec. 26, 1989; his parents; three sisters, Mabel Koenigsfeld, Elizabeth Frascht, and Margaret Gabel; and one brother, Donald "Dutch" Osier.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Gilbert A. Osier Memorial Fund in care of the family.
