LEXINGTON, Va. — Marion Beatrice Katcher Brown, 94, of Lexington, Va., died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Kendal at Lexington.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Lexington Presbyterian Church.
She was born in Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, on May 18, 1913, a daughter of the late Charles and Louise Heyer Katcher. Marion attended Iowa State College and served as both a Girl Scout and 4-H Club leader in Iowa. She also has a life-long interest in crafts of all kinds, especially sewing and leather, and was an accomplished weaver. She and her husband were avid bridge players, as well.
She lived in Iowa until 1974, when they moved to Sun City, Ariz. She moved to Lexington in 2006 to be near her daughter, Barbara Jeanne Brown, who survives. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Demeric Katcher of Charles City and Lillian Brown of Rose Hill, Iowa; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Elwyn Katcher, and husband, William Howard Brown, who served as county agricultural agent in Floyd and Carroll counties in Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Fellowship Fund at Kendal of Lexington, 160 Kendal Dr., Lexington, Va., 24450 or to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA. 24450 will be welcome.
