CHARLES CITY - Maxine Monroe, 73, died Sunday (Jan. 31, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home with the Rev. John Smith of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Indianola, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery [Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa].

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

The family suggests memorials to the John Monroe Junior Golf Classic which Maxine and John Sr. founded in 1968 for the youth of Charles City and the surrounding area.

Maxine Dorothy Cline Monroe was born Feb. 3, 1925, at Rockford, Iowa.

Survivors include her husband, John Sr. of Charles City; two sons, John Jr. of Indianola, and Chris of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Gerrie Prickett of Indianola, and Ginny Lehmkuhl of Columbus, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Cline of Charles City, and Dale Cline of Webster City; and two sisters, Carole Stayner of Osage, and Mary Benedict of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.
