SHEFFIELD, IOWA - Truman H. Gast, 94, of 100 Bennett Drive, Sheffield, died Monday (Dec. 22, 2008) at the Sheffield Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs, with Pastor Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Nora Springs. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Sheckler Colonial Chapel.

Truman was born May 12, 1914, the son of Ed and Mary (Winters) Gast in Nora Springs, Floyd county, Iowa. He attended the Nora Springs schools and then went to work for his family farm. Truman married Ruth (Martin) and to this union one son was born.

Truman drove truck for various companies and also worked for Decker's for 30 years as a forklift driver. He then drove a school bus for Nora Springs School System for 10 years and then worked for Mason City Transit as a bus driver.
Truman's true love was horses and he was one of the founding members of the Riverside Riders Saddle Club for 25 years. He also enjoyed meeting his friends at the Nora Inn Restaurant for coffee in the mornings and lunch.

He is survived by his son, Howard Gast, Sheffield; his grandsons, Kevin (Brenda) Gast, Sheffield, and James Gast, Nora Springs, and his great grandchildren, Chelsea and Logan Gast, Sheffield.

Truman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, and his sister, Monita.
