CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Melvin M. Heitmann, 74, of 1781 Lancer Ave., died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 1997) at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. His ashes will be scattered at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday.

Melvin Merle Heitmann was born on August 15, 1923, in Floyd County, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of the Nora Springs Care Center; two sons, Bruce Heitmann of Floyd and Timothy Heitmann of Buford, Ga.; four daughters, Norah Heitmann of Nora Springs, Melanie Stumbaugh of Duarte, Calif., and Melissa Hernandez and Julie Young, both of Frederic, Wis.; one brother, Alvin Heitmann of Liberty, Mo.; one sister, Shirley Reis of Charles City; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John, in 1989; and one sister, Thelma Koehler.
