Velma Murphy, 88, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Velma Murphy were held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Burial was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens south of Charles City.

Velma Buella Fisher Murphy was born March 11, 1920, at Charles City, the daughter of Emil and Fannie (Lines) Fisher.

On June 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Robert Murphy. They lived in the Floyd County area until Robert entered the United States Army in April of 1943. When he returned they lived the rest of their lives in Charles City. Robert died on Jan. 29, 1999.

Living family members include a brother, Amil (Dorothy) Fisher of Charles City; a nephew, Gary (Ann) Fisher of Charles City; and two nieces, Susan Fisher of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Donna (Harold) Leek of Dodgeville, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Donald Fisher.

The Hauser Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, www.hauserfh.com, in Charles City, was in charge of arrangements.
