CHARLES CITY — Iva Smith, 87, of Charles City, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2005) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Iva Smith will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, where there will be a vigil scriptural wake service at 4:30 p.m. followed by the reciting of the rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass.

Iva Smith, 87, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Iva Smith will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 4:30 p.m. followed by the reciting of the Rosary.

Iva Mae Ward Smith was born December 12, 1917, at Wesley, the daughter of W.A. and Tracy (Goetz) Ward. She graduated from Wesley High School and attended business school in Des Moines.

On March 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to John Smith at Fresno, California. While living in California she worked in various retail businesses and then owned and operated several businesses. In 1993 they retired and moved to Charles City. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Guild and St. Jude Circle. Iva enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening.

Living family members include her husband, J. Douglas of Charles City; two children, Joyce Mowry of Modesto, California and William “Bill” (Myrna) Smith of Chico, California; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a sister, Donna (Gil) White of Charles City; and a brother, William O. (Wanda) Ward of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerri Smith; a brother, Edward Fay Ward.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa Charles City Site or the Immaculate Conception Catholic School Educational Assistance Fund.
