Elva M. Neir, age 98, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Monday, February 26, 2007, at the Good Shepard Health Center in Mason City, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Elva Martha (Little) Neir was born October 19, 1908, the daughter of Benjamin and Helen (Beck) Little, in Floyd County. In June of 1928, she graduated from the Charles City High School in the normal training class. She taught in rural schools in Floyd County.

On February 28, 1936 she was united in marriage to Amos D. Neir at the home of her parents, rural Charles City. The two of them farmed in Floyd County until October 19, 1963. They retired from farming and moved into Charles City.

Elva was employed at Riverside Chautauqua in the Dietary Department for 15 years. In her younger years she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, their large garden, canning and freezing many vegetables and fruits.

Elva especially loved cooking and entertaining friends and family in their home. In recent years she enjoyed playing 500 and dominos with four special friends, Bessie Davis, Doris Sharp, Joyce Nelson and Ester Moore.

Living family members include her daughter, Lucille (Wesley) Malenke of rural Floyd; a sister, Lois Hunn of New Winsor, Illinois; three nephews, David Hunn, Delbert Hunn, and James Hunn and their families; and many other nieces and nephews including, Ronald (Carol) Baxter and Melvin (Alma) Baxter; and great-nephew and great-niece Lukas and Annalynn Baxter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Amos; a sister Ruth Klinehart; and one infant brother.
