Philip Joseph McGinn was born August 22, 1925, at New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mayme (Galligan) McGinn. He graduated from Lawler High School and attended Loras College. Philip proudly served in the United States Marines in Okinawa and China during World War II.

On September 13, 1947 he was married to Rebecca Murphy at Lawler, Iowa. From 1951 to 1971 they lived in Mason City and then moved to Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa. They later divorced.

Phil was then united in marriage to Mary Heddinger Clark on July 22, 1981 in Minnesota. He was employed as a rural mail carrier for many years at Floyd. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight while in Mason City, V.F.W., Floyd County Veterans Commission, the Moose Lodge, Floyd Lions Club, and Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years.

His interests included pull tabs, playing cards, visiting, bowling and playing golf. Philip was a very sociable person and will always be remembered for his ability to visit with anyone.

Living family members include his wife, Mary of Charles City; his seven children and their families, David (Ginger) McGinn, Matt and Erin of Holland, MI, Jon (Jeanne) McGinn and Meggan of Fridley, MN; Thomas (Brenda) McGinn, Stephanie and Michael of Charles City; Jan Rawley, Jesse and Jon, and fiancée Kelly Christensen of Charles City; Patrick McGinn, Leah and Luke, and fiancée Ann Freiberg of Charles City; Michele (Michael) Carter, Karrey and Kelley of Iowa City, and Mary Kathryn “Katy” McGinn, Maggie, Joshua, Caitlyn and Dylan of Charles City; two great grandchildren, Rylie and Henry; Mary’s children and families, Bo (Lara) Clark and Mia of Boston, Massachusetts, and Michelle (Patrick) Boyle of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Bud McGinn; and a sister, Mary Mandahl.
