Robert “Bob” Smith, 68, of Greene, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Robert Elliott Smith was born April 4, 1938, near Greene, the son of Leslie and Lula (Elliott) Smith and graduated from Greene High School in 1956.

On April 17, 1957, he was united in marriage to Margaret Kruse at Clarksville. Bob and Margaret farmed in the Greene area all of their lives, retiring from farming in 2006. Bob was a life long active member of the Church of the Brethren. He will be remembered as an avid conservationist, having been recognized for his work by Pheasants Forever. Bob also enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing with family and friends. He always looked forward to attending his grandchildren’s activities.

Living family members include his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Smith of Greene; five children, Randy (Jayne) Smith of Ankeny, Ron (Jane) Smith of Farmington, Minn., Ryan (Karen) Smith of Charles City, Ross (Lisa) Smith of Norwalk, and Rhonda (Brad) Rottler of Greene; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Twila) Smith of Greene; and a brother-in-law, Ken Miller of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorlene Miller.
