CHARLES CITY — Dorothy Smith, 83, of Rudd, died Saturday (Sept 3 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Nora Springs Christian Church with Pastor Glen Bandel officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Dorothy Smith, age 83, of Rudd, Iowa, died on September 3, 2005.

Dorothy Henrietta Blunt was born October 9, 1921, at Rudd, Floyd county, Iowa, the daughter of Virgil and Grace (Helmers) Blunt. She received her education at Nora Springs.

On December 10, 1941, she was united in marriage to Charles Smith at Albert Lea, Minnesota. They farmed all their lives in the Nora Springs area. From 1966 to 1973 Dorothy was proprietor of the Midtown Café in Nora Springs. She then was employed at North Iowa Area Community College in food service department.

Dorothy was a member of the Nora Springs Christian Church, Royal Neighbors of America and the Community Club.

Her hobbies included cooking, delighting in giving everyone a meal or lunch, and playing bingo and cards. Dorothy’s greatest interest, however, was Bluegrass music and Gospel music. She would sit by the hour enjoying these forms of musical expression.

Living family members include a daughter, Lois (Howard) Eliasen of Bella Vista, AR; two grandsons, Ken (Sherrie) Eliasen of Atlanta, GA, and Tony (Kristi) Eliasen of Bentonville, AR; four great grandsons, Tyler, Malachi, Clay and Drew Eliasen; three step great grandchildren, Dan and Matt McCormick and Jennifer Ordenana; two sisters, Vera Krause and Vivian (Lavonne) Eichmeier both of Rockford; two brothers, Edwin Blunt and Dennis (Shirley) Blunt both of Montana; a special uncle, Glen Blunt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a great granddaughter, Megan Eliasen; and three sisters, Lola, Arlene and Marie.
