William “Lavern” (Buck) Sigler, 90, of Floyd, died Saturday, January 06, 2007, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Lavern was born June 17, 1916 at the family farm in rural Floyd, the son of Alonzo and Myrtle (Brittin) Sigler. He graduated from Floyd Consolidated School in 1933.

He was united in marriage to Joyce Meyer, August 12, 1936. Years of employment consisted of working at Hart Parr Plant in Charles City along with farming with his brothers. In 1962, he was appointed to Deputy Assessor for Floyd County and held this position for 26 years.

He had the love of sports which included baseball, fishing, hunting, and playing cards. Lavern and Joyce loved to go dancing too. He was a member of Floyd town baseball town for many years, a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Floyd School Board, Woodman of America, Grace United Methodist Church, Butler County REC, Floyd Trustee and a charter member of the Floyd Lions Club. He enjoyed being with his family and friends to the fullest.

Living family members include his wife Joyce of 70 years; two daughters, Caryl (Bill) Tjaden of Denver, Iowa, and Melodee (J D) Miller of Forney, Tex.; six grandsons, Kevin (Monica) Tjaden, Kent (Koby) Tjaden, Mark (Brenda) Tjaden, Brett (Jennifer) Tjaden, Dean White, and Aaron (Nichole) White. There are 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Oliver, Martin, and Clifford Sigler; six sisters, Edna Sigler, Opal Canfield, Charlotte Gray Toebe, Londa Bonewitz, Esta Holtz, and Wanda Johnson; and one grandson, Kurt Leach

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the charity of their choice.
