James S. Scoles, age 84, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Saturday, August 04, 2007, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Pastor Gary Van Wert of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

James Sidney Scoles was born March 11, 1923, near Nashua, Iowa, the son of Charles and Minnie (Smith) Scoles. He attended Nashua Schools.

On February 12, 1947, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Sullivan in Des Moines. James served in the United States Army Air Corps in England during WWII. He was a long time employee of Oliver/White Farm in Charles City. He was a member of the American Legion and Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. His interests included playing cards, camping, dancing, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.

Living family members include three children, Jim (Joyce) Scoles of Charles City, Carol (Dennis) Krausman of Lone Tree, Colorado, Jon (Laura) Scoles of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jane Scoles of Omaha, Nebraska, Jill Scoles of Blair, Nebraska, Melinda Harris of Dallas, Texas, Sarah Lanckriet of Centennial, Colorado, Molly Scoles of West Des Moines, and Matt Ward of West Des Moines; four great grandchildren. James is also survived by his special friend, Alice DeBower Funte of Charles City and her family, including two children, Shari (Jerome) Schmitt of Charles City, Roy (Gloria) DeBower of Marshalltown, Iowa; five grandchildren, Paula (Shawn) Vroman of Waterloo, Iowa, Sondra Schmitt of Waterloo, Karla Goddard of Charles City, Josh (Becky) DeBower of Marshalltown, and Tom DeBower of Chicago; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis in 1997; six sisters, Hazel Bryan, Geraldine Johnson, Colleen Martin, Luella Dean, Mary Jane Walker, and Margaret Williamson; and two brothers, Robert Scoles and Harry Scoles.
