Evelyn Welter 94, of Charles City, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at her residence.

A funeral Mass for Evelyn Welter will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

Evelyn Louise Wentz Welter was born July 18, 1909, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Smith) Wentz. She graduated from the New Hampton High School and attended College of North Iowa at Cedar Falls. Evelyn taught country school for five years. On June 7, 1932, she was united in marriage with Thad Welter at Ionia. They farmed near Bassett all of their lives.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Francis Circle and Rosary Society. The time that Evelyn spent with her family was very important and she always looked forward to being with her grandchildren. She and Thad raised and showed Belgium horses and purebred Berkshire hogs on what was known as “Golden Glow Farms”. Evelyn enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.

Living family members include two daughters, Marilyn (Calvin) Swancutt and LaVonne Hackman both of Charles City; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and a sister, Kathleen Hugeback.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thad on August 19, 1990, a great grandson, Chad Hackman, a son-in-law, Virgil Hackman, and two brothers, Glen and Peter Wentz.
