Richard Houstman, age 79, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Richard Ray Houstman was born August 12, 1926, at Ocheyedan, Iowa, the son of Fred and Edith (Jones) Houstman. He graduated from Ocheyedan High School.

In May of 1953 he was united in marriage to Grace (Dotson). Grace died on March 30, 1986. On September 9, 1989 he married Doris Sinnwell. Doris died on August 25, 2003. During his working career he was employed with Wackerbarth-Brothers Implement from 1948-1955 at Ocheyedan, Adrian Implement 1955-1964, and at Salsbury Laboratories from 1964 until his retirement in1990.

Richard served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, where he taught Sunday school, and was Sunday school Superintendent for many years. He was a member of the American Legion. His hobbies included wood working, traveling, flea marketing, and repairing things. Richard loved everything and everybody, most of all he thoroughly enjoyed life.

Living family includes special friend and caregiver Celia Kaiser of Charles City; two daughters, Mary (Steven) Jung of Mason City, and Gloria (Dennis) Venz of Alden; three grandchildren, Jason Jung and special friend Christina Powell of Mason City, Jenna Jung and fiancé Andrew Johnson of Mason City, and Tiffany Venz of Alden; one special great-granddaughter, Alexis Powell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a grandson in 1985; and a sister.
