Evelyn Frances Howe Jensen was born August 2, 1932 at Greene, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alvina (Vala) Howe. She attended country school, graduated from Charles City High School in 1950, and studied music at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Evelyn worked at the Farm Service Coop for a brief time.

On November 22, 1952, she was united in marriage with Philip Jensen at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They farmed all of their lives on the same farm south of Charles City.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Catherine’s Circle, and organ guild. Evelyn enjoyed music. She played both piano and organ, playing the organ at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for 25 years. For many years she gave piano lessons. She liked being outdoors where she went fishing and did both vegetable and flower gardening. Evelyn also liked to travel and had been in all of the United States except for Maine.

Family meant everything to Evelyn and she would attend all the various functions that her grandchildren were participating in. Also the family gatherings were very special times for Evelyn.

Living family members include her husband, Philip of Charles City; six children, Joel (Marcia) Jensen of Denver, Jerome “Romey” Jensen of Powersville, Jeffrey (Queen) Jensen of Charles City, Jay and special friend Deb of Cedar Falls, Jonathan (Kim) Jensen of Charles City, and Jennifer (Barry) Mackey of Greene; 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Eric, Kristin, Blake, Afton, Cassie, Carrie, Alysia, Josephine, Joshua, Jesse and Juliette; and a sister, Virginia (Glen) Brinkman of Charles City.
