Charles City, IowaArdell Lavon Stegen Sullivan was born October 16, 1923, at Frankville, the daughter of Hans and Ruth (Miekle) Stegen. She graduated from the Postville High School.
On November 11, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lee Sullivan. They lived in Bassett for many years. In 1962 she moved to Charles City. During her working career she was employed at Frink’s Greenhouse for 10 years and Cashman’s Nursery, now Sherman Nursery for 25 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church. Ardell always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the companionship of her cats, Jesse and Jackie.
Living family members include six children, Karen Uker of Charles City, Gloria (Danny) Wilson of Charles City, Donna (Curt) Hammerberg of Savage, Minn., Steven (Bonita) Sullivan of Charles City, Debra Sullivan of Shakopee, Minn. and Becky Allyn of Savage, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Nita Sullivan of Mason City; a brother, Mike (Jan) Stegen of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Marge (Kenny) Ewing of Waukon and Gladys “Pat” Romeo of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Sullivan; four grandchildren; two great grandsons; a brother, Leland Stegen; and two sisters, Lila Dishon and Maxine Vokes.
